Mangrove: Solution for Carbon and Climate

CONSERVATION

HOW TO CONSERVE AND SUSTAIN YOUR PLANTATION?

After successful planting, the mangroves might still be in danger. Do patrolling to find out the survival rate, monitor growth by measuring, and use knives and grass cutters to weed if necessary. Do replacement of propagules as needed. Additionally, engage voluntary forest guards to inspect and report back to the mangrove conservation committees. It is important that each village has a conservation committee and members who are willing to serve as voluntary guards. Everyone in the community should be mobilized to support the project and be involved in protecting the trees. This can be made possible by awareness-raising sessions that are participatory, inclusive, and foster experience sharing. It is also important to use exposure/exchange visits to enhance peer learning within a project, amongst individuals, and inter-projects.

Check the planting area regularly. Remove dead mangroves and replant them. Organise patrols to protect the areas. Ensure that local communities are aware and participate.
