WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR PLANTING AREA?
River estuaries can vary a lot. Find out which species will thrive in this particular place. Ask older people living there what mangrove species were used previously.

Beware of dominant species in the area you intend to use or the pre-existent species, and understand the climate patterns. Also, vital to know the tide so as to be assured of water in and out of rainy seasons. Mangrove trees are water based so they need water to thrive. Get the support of local community knowledge in order to keep updated with local context dynamics.

We need to know environmental parameters for mangrove planting areas such as tidal pattern, salinity, soil condition, rainfall, light intensity, soil and water pH, and mangrove zonation patterns (Landward zone, Mid Zone, Seaward Zone). Mangrove species are divided depending on the zone. After knowing the necessary environmental conditions, we also need to know the reasons for the degradation of the mangrove in this region. That is, we can have maintained successful mangroves for the long term if we know the causes of the degradation factors.
