Mangrove: Solution for Carbon and Climate

NURSERY-RAISED SEEDLINGS

WHAT ARE THE BEST PRACTICES DURING OUT-PLANTING DAYS?

The best method is to find mangrove trees in the area and pick propagules directly from them. If this is not possible, we can consider nurseries for bigger projects.

Out-planting: start by transporting to the restoration area. The seedlings which become viable after (approximately) 8 months in the nursery are placed in baskets/planks and transported using a boat two days before the arrival of the tide. One can use the lunar calendar to tell when the tide may arrive. It is vital to determine the size of your mangrove planting project well in advance so as to know if a mangrove nursery is required. Other good out-planting practices include seed sowing seedlings, labeling, caring for the trees, and regularly checking the survival rate. But what should be the standard difference between the mangrove trees (based on the physical features of each tree species)?

Nurseries only for big projects. Seedlings can be planted after 8 months. Transport the seedlings to the site two days before spring tide.
